I meant #2.
I have two basic questions. Are we too materialistic? Is being materialistic detrimental?

First a quick recap about our last talk - meme warfare. We decided that memes are concepts or ideas, such as "global warming will destroy the planet", "the universe began with the Big Bang", or "communism is really bad". The talk was pretty entertaining because almost every meme example we brought up turned into a tangental discussion about that meme, itself - it was like a topic pinata.
Our upcoming meeting will take a look at materialism. Thanks to the posts that Jim supplied, it's evident that there are at least two meanings to "materialism" - 1. the belief that what's real is only what exists physically (e.g., the material world) and that spirituality isn't real at all; 2. having to do with the pursuit or desire for material wealth. Since Jennifer suggested this topic, she'll have to let us know which idea she has in mind.
