The Practice of Learning

Details
For January's meeting, we'll focus on the practice of learning something new. Learning is woven into the fabric of our work lives, but why do we learn new things? How can we address common fears and mistakes with learning something new, especially when getting started? What can we do to continue learning in the face of frustration and burnout?
Kevin Lee will talk about his experiences learning how to swim for a triathlon, iOS and Android mobile development, what the term 'node convergence' really means, and, finally, the hardest project he has embarked on in decades: Spanish.
About the Speaker:
Kevin works in DevOps for The Neat Company and is proud to call himself a Cloud Plumber. He started programming professionally with Java 1.2 in 1999 and escaped to iOS and Android development after 2010. As a grumpy old programmer, one of his favorite quotes is: "The true cost of software is not the cost of development but the long-term maintenance."
