Over on TechCrunch, there's an article about how software should be used to do great things.­

It's this sentiment that essentially led to SWRE. I agree with the author that while coupon sites and social gaming (and mobile geo blah blah blah advertising platforms) can bring some value to the world... it's often pretty hard to see how they are really going to make it a better place.

It's amazing the power we have, even self-taught programmers with very little experience. Why not direct that passion and talent towards solving a problem that really matters?

What do you think? Maybe the SW developer ecosystem is still so small that it doesn't matter what we work on as growing the skill sets and talent pools will eventually "raise all boats".

Expect this topic to come up again at our first meet-up... and probably a few times thereafter.
