Edinburgh Software Testing Meetup

Overview

This is a gathering for software enthusiasts who are passionate about Testing to meet in a friendly collaborative environment, get to know one another and learn from each other.

All are welcome regardless of experience or role.

Venue

The meetup will be hosted at the Skyscanner headquarters in Edinburgh.

Doors open at 6:30 for kickoff shortly after 7.

Format

The format is likely to be lean coffee over beer & pizza, followed by two talks of 45 minutes (including presentation and Q&A), then off to a nearby pub.

Talks

Craig Syme is a senior test engineer in Skyscanners Car Hire squad, and will be presenting a talk on automating cross-browser page layout testing using Applitools Eyes.

Testing CSS renders correctly across multiple supported browsers has long been a slow manual process. The constant pressure in the internet economy to release new features and changes faster is at odds with ensuring a consistent high quality user experience.

This talk will discuss how we use Applitools in Skyscanner and the benefits we’ve experienced by investing in a reliable visual acceptance testing service.

The second talk will be presented by Del Dewar (http://findingdeefex.com) on "Learn to Unlearn: A path to insightful testing".

Learning. It's something we've been doing since the day we were born. From our earliest accomplishments as infants through our academic years to where we are now in our professional careers, learning is something we embrace to improve ourselves and further our ambitions.

As testers, learning is a fundamental skill that is synonymous with good testing, but what about the principle of "unlearning"? This talk endeavours to explore the flip-side of the learning coin, asking what unlearning really means, discussing real examples, and eluding to techniques that could aid your unlearning and perhaps make you an even better tester.
