We in the Armory Park neighborhood have book discussions occasionally. I was introduced to an author and his take on a subject I have found interesting. We in the Solar Society don't have general discussions on politics but some people may have some interest in that area. I'm posting this to the Solar Society so that those interested in joining us can respond to me.
The discussion group is for understanding together what's been going on in America and maybe changing it:
Reframing Is Social Change.
Frames are mental structures that shape the way we see the world.
A basic principle of framing for when you are arguing with the other side:
Do not use their language. Their language picks out a frame --and it won't be the frame you want.
The conservatives set a trap: Their words draw you into their worldview.
(George Lakoff, Don't Think of An Elephant)
Progressives need to understand framing. And progressives need to speak with progressive values and use words that draw their readers and listeners into their worldview.
We propose a discussion group to explore the ideas in George Lakoff's Don't Think of An Elephant: Know Your Values And Frame The Debate (The essential guide for Progressives).
If you are interested in joining us, please contact me (please email through the Solar Society but don't reply directly to this post as the reply will then go out to everyone). We'll arrange for a place and time when we see how many are interested enough to contact us.
