WHEN: Sunday, August 11, come any time between 10am and noon. The Clinic will end at 1pm.

COST: Free

WHY:

Eco-Cycle and Solid State Depot are teaming up to host Boulder’s first ever Fix-It Clinic, an idea hatched in Berkeley, CA that’s catching on in various forms worldwide! It’s a positive, empowering response to that too-familiar modern refrain, “This isn’t worth fixing – buy a new one.”

Many products aren’t designed to be repaired anymore, and the old Main Street Repair Shop has long since disappeared. Meanwhile, our landfills fill at an ever-faster rate. But you may be surprised how easy it is to fix your broken gadget…and do it yourself!

Join the Fix-It movement! You will have access to highly-skilled volunteer coaches to guide you, all the tools you’ll need for most basic repairs, a really fun and creative space, and a chance to not only restore to working condition that gadget you can’t live without, but feel the empowering thrill of learning how it works by FIXING IT YOURSELF!

This will be the first of what we hope will become regularly scheduled Fix-It Clinics. All ages and abilities are welcome. Come help us launch this creative and fun event. Please click here to sign up so we can get a sense of how many coaches and tools we’ll need.

What you can bring:

• Any small appliance – toasters, vacuums, blenders, lamps, etc.

• Electric games and toys

• Power tools

• …and your own curiosity about how things work

If you already have the replacement part or specialized tool you suspect you’ll need, please bring it with you. Note: computers and mobile phones are beyond the scope of this first workshop, but may be considered for a future one.
