Okay, if you're looking for an affordable light modifier for a single flash, here's a few items to consider (among dozens of similar solutions):

In a pinch, if you can't bounce your speedlite off the ceiling or wall (outside, etc) when up close, point the flash upward (or sideways in portraiture) and slightly cup your hand so a portion of the light will bounce of your palm toward the subject. Or if you're into DIY, you can even cutup a plastic milk carton, fashion it around the speedlite head and affix it with a rubber band.
