Mage: Orrery of Covenants [Ascension milieu using Dresden Files]

The classic paradigms of Old World of Darkness Mage get twisted about a bit, and we'll be using the more meta and flexible Dresden Files rpg.

The first session will be to decide what major city for setting, traditions and spheres to focus on, and well as get the players' takes on what some of the major burrs in the smooth flow of mystical life should be.

I have oodles of experience as a GM, and a game with modern mages is one I have certainly speculated about a great deal. This might be an every-other week campaign, depending on players' schedules.

Put a little post on the message board. So I stop using up space here.

I have read through most of the "Your Story" Dresden Files book today, and it is a nice take on the FATE system. Also, I have spent some time cozying up to Mage: the Ascension. The Nine Traditions and all that seem positively wonderful all over again. One thing I can't help but note is a pair of events that would seem to have had impact on the Ascension War landscape since the book was written in the '90s: 9/11 and (as painful as it is to type the words) the Harry Potter movies. The former has obvious implications, and the latter really does bring paradigm-shifting awareness to a wider audience. Or, rather, a certain receptivity and unconscious longing? Anyway, these are some thoughts in my head. My main thought running Mage with DF-rpg: mages have to get even subtler in their workings. Who the fundamental enemies are for your cabal, what city we choose, all that can be covered at the first session. I would suggest at least peeking at Ascension setting, if you [Gabe] haven't before....

Gratified that multiple folks are stoked! I will follow up more tomorrow. When by brain has recovered from work-week.
