By now most of you know that Gary Martin, Event Organizer and ride leader, passed away on Saturday, May 18. It was a tragic and unexpected loss that has shaken us all. I'm sending this email just in case some of you have not seen the discussion online, the comments in this week's rides, or the posts on our Facebook page. Here is the discussion thread:
And here's information you may want to know:
We have created a memory book that is making the rounds at the evening rides this week. It has photos of Gary and space for you to share a memory, talk about how Gary affected you, write your thoughts about his loss, or simply sign your name. Collin will have it at tonight's Arastradero ride, and Amber will bring it to Fremont Older on Friday. If you are already on these rides, and you haven't signed, you will have a chance to do so. If you aren't on these rides, and want to sign, please just meet at the meeting spot for the ride and you'll be able to sign there. I'm also collecting comments about Gary from the site and on Facebook to print out and place in the memory book, so if you can't make the service or sign the book, I will do my best to get your comments in there. Can't promise I'll get every word though.
If you would like to pay your respects in person, here is information regarding services. Ray and I plan to attend the Saturday service, along with several others who were close to Gary, but our entire Meetup group has been invited by both Gary's fiancee Mary, and his mother Sallie.
