Understanding the Web Stack

What happens when you type a url into your web browser? How does that translate into loading the expected website? If you can fully answer these questions, you know 10x more than the average web tester.

As test engineers, our value lies in being able to find as many ways to break software as possible because we help our companies minimize risk. In an internet company, this value rises by an order of magnitude when the test engineer fully understands how the internet works since this opens up an order of magnitude of more things to test.

We'll spend this meetup session discussing the ins-and-outs of how the internet works and correlate that to software testing.

Jim Kellas did a very good synopsis of the complexities of the web, and the challenges to test those topologies.

Today's presentation was one of the best in recent times. It was informative, interactive, team-oriented and brain-teaser exercise was a smart idea. I enjoyed the way you carried all through the session, Jim. Nicely done!

No because this meetup entails group participation and whiteboard work. Also, it would require having a person dedicated to controlling the video camera.
