Year in Review and what's planned for 2012

Dear members

As you look out your windows at the pouring rain, you can see that our year of camping is over - but when the sun returns for 2012 there is much coming up.

This year started in February at Mt Tamborine and we had trips to Midginbil Hill, Noosa North Shore, Flanagans Reserve, Lake Maroon, Crystal Waters ecovillage, Girraween NP and Shakespeare Under the Stars in the Granite Belt, music festivals at Maryborough and Neurum Creek, and finally Wooyung Beach. We saw plenty of wildlife - just look at the photos. It got close at times with a kookaburra snatching my steak at Girraween NP, possums getting into food at Flanagans Reserve and I was shat on three times by birds at Wooyung Beach!

2012 will begin with a meet and greet barbecue at Mermaid Park on the Gold Coast (weather permitting) and I have already booked camping sites at the Apple and Grape Festival at Stanthorpe in March. Away from the festival that weekend also offers members the chance to do some bushwalking in the nearby national parks or do some wine tasting.

Although we all have a love of camping our interests vary from photography to bushwalking to fishing etc. Some us also have pets and children so the camping trips have to be as widely interesting as possible and in this regard we will again do beach and bush camping again, more festivals, with pet friendly sites being picked where available.

Places planned for next year are Brooms Head in northern NSW, located in Yuraygir National Park(which has plenty of nature trails)  right on the beach, Sheepstation Creek in the Border Ranges NP and the popular Neurum Creek Acoustic Music Festival again. We are also looking at another nearby festival, the Rathdowney Heritage Festival, as well as the Imbil Acoustic Music Festival. For fishing my co-organiser Cris wouldn't mind some company at Lake Maroon where you can fish for bass and bring crabpots for red claw crays.

A more distant spot being considered is Nymboida in the ranges south of Grafton where there is a canoe centre and the Museum of Interesting Things, which has Russell Crowe's customised motorcycle from American Chopper. From the Meet and Greet we will also get more ideas.

If you had a boring 2011, you haven't been camping with us yet!

Look forward to seeing you all next year,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
