South Bay Improv Fun

If you happen to be around this Sunday afternoon, come out to play improv games! Everyone welcome! Absolute beginners very welcome!

The organizer (Ari) is an experienced improviser, teacher, and game collector.

We're meeting right behind the Mountain View Community Center, in the large circular area next to the parking lot. There's plenty of shade and parking (with several parking lots on other sides of the park as well). It's located in a beautiful park (Rengstorff Park), with lots of trees, big grassy fields, basketball and tennis courts, etc.

Anyone interested in stand-up comedy, public speaking (e.g., Toastmasters), RPGs (role-playing games, such as Dungeons and Dragons or LARP), social deduction games (Werewolf, Secret Hitler, etc.), movie/book/TV trivia, or just the best advanced English conversation practice, should try improv at least once.

Improv is an amazing art form, with connections to writing and poetry (especially comedy sketch, script, and play writing), dance and movement practices (contact improv, fusion), circus arts (mime and clowning), music and singing (blues, jazz, rap), psychology (psychodrama, play therapy), even martial arts and sports, — and, of course, theater and film acting.

We play different games each time, taking inspiration from the interests and experiences of the people who join us.

Come enjoy musical improv! (improv comedy-not a band)
improvised singing! Watch or join-it is so much fun! We have a live keyboardist.

Any and all levels from complete novice to veteran improvisors are welcome. We work on basic improv skills, but we also have a live accompanist on keyboard as well. We do some warm up activities and then we make up scenes and songs as well! Sound intimidating?

Don't worry- it is all fun and you are being led by several veteran musical improvisors. You do not have to be a singer. Most of us are improvisors first, but individuals who enjoy the format and joy of musical improv. You are also welcome to just come, watch, and laugh as well. Everyone who has come has ended up joining in, but it is not required. We are an amazingly warm and welcoming group. You will definitely leave smiling and feeling connected!

Many of us have been in the Wednesday and Sunday groups as well. Feel free to bring friends or others.

Mimosas is now adding late night Karaoke AFTER the improvised songs with our keyboardist!

You will have a ton of fun and laugh a lot. You can watch or join in the fun! The bar and restaurant literally named a drink after us (alcoholic and nonalcoholic versions) the "Mimosical." Come try one out. You can even "yes and" the drink to where it adds a couple extra things and even helps make an improv suggestion! Yes the drink...offers up the suggestion! (Come find out how that works!)

We meet at Mimosa's restaurant in Willow Glen (San Jose) just off 280 and right on the main bus line up to palo alto (#25) or mile away from the main Diridon downtown train station. There is a full bar open with a bartender if you or friends want something, but the restaurant actually closes down for us! (There is a great pizza place next door and a couple other spots in the small center-you can bring in outside food.) We stop at 9:30 to share positive reflections with a hard stop at 9:45 to let people actually get home. (These times also tend to allow for missing any traffic!)

After requests-the bar and restaurant are also trying out karaoke AFTER the keyboardist goes home. A bunch of folks have gone out elsewhere for karaoke, but it is now offered at the restaruant as well!

Note: We (and all south bay improv events) ask for a contribution to cover the exclusive cost of the facility and so we can pay our amazing keyboardist.
