"The greatest meeting of land and water in the world."
Francis McComa, Landscape ArtistAbout Point Lobos:
Deriving its name from the offshore rocks at Punta de los Lobos Marinos, Point of the Sea Wolves, where the sound of the sea lions carries inland, the Reserve has often been called "the crown jewel of the State Park System." Point Lobos has offered many things to millions of people who have visited it over the years. Point Lobos State Reserve has outstanding passive recreation values, such as sightseeing, photography, painting, nature study, picnicking, SCUBA diving, and jogging. In addition to the spectacular beauty, nearly every aspect of its resources is of scientific interest. There are rare plant communities, endangered archeological sites, unique geological formations, and incredibly rich flora an fauna of both land and sea.Hike Description:
It's a long drive, but well worth it. This flat out and back will be along the coast. There is a loop trail, but it goes inland and if you go to Point Lobos, you will want to take in the coast for the entire time you are there. It's absolutely beautiful!Carpool Information:
We will meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Los Gatos Park and Ride. From Highway 17, exit on Saratoga/Los Gatos Road. It's located between University Ave & Santa Cruz Ave. It's the Northeast lot. It's hard to miss. You should see other people and cars.Cost:
$10 per car. I'm not sure if the State Park Pass is applicable for a State Natural Preserve.
