WHY FORM 'SOUTHBAY SWING DANCING'?

We've been looking for places to dance in the Southbay and found that there just aren't very many. And we are really not big on driving all over LA just to find a cool place to dance. The cool place to dance is where you make it. So we have decided to meet in parks and other public areas in the Southbay instead. We will dance to music coming from the Soul Cycle, our portable bicycle stereo system used often by The Southbay Cruisers (www.meetup.com/southbaycruisers) and The Southbay Acoustic Musicians (www.meetup.com/southbay-acoustic-musicians). We will have fun! We will host barbecues and bonfires especially as the summer weather starts kicking in. We will kick it, old school like they did in the '30's when Lindy Hop was first born.

Given our low overhead, our events will be of minimal cost. For barbecues and bonfires we will likely ask a buck or two to cover the cost of charcoal and/or firewood. Over time, who knows, we may find bands to play for us too.

Given that we will be dancing in public areas, WE WILL NOT DRINK ALCOHOL at our events. Sorry, it's the law, and we really aren't into the bar scene anyway. We do encourage you to bring your own bottled waters or soft drinks, food that you want to barbecue, etc. Changes in the economy are calling for changes in the way we dance, so we are changing too.

We are a friendly, respectful group. Be prepared to be respectful and friendly to others at our events and leave your attitude at home. If you are an experienced dancer we encourage you to help new people learn how to dance. Movements flourish when experienced dancers continue to help newbies.

See you on the dancefloor!
