Whether you have been stressed by unemployment, sickened by political division, or frustrated by 24/7 media triviality, this is a place to let it go. Join real people to enjoy real life activities oriented around the joy of human companionship, not a constant competition or fashion show. Share stories, play games, teach skills, take journeys, all in the company of others interested in living a life just a few degrees off from the manic pace of society.
A little about me: I come from a background that could be described as a mix of secular humanism, paganism, and new age spirituality with a few years of Catholic school tossed in for good measure. I have survived a number of physical injuries with profound effects on my personality. I have explored several religions and found an inner spiritual path works better for me than dogma. I have been part of intentional community, lived alone, and supported a sibling through a tragic family loss. Each experience has put life and the value of friendships in solid perspective. People are not solitary animals. Yet we live in a society that asks us to be islands. To this, I say: NO.
In my experience, people of all faiths need to connect, but there are few opportunities outside of church or schooling. “If you build it they will come” has remarkable truth in it, and so this is my effort to build a space that is beyond church or religion but serves some of the same functions they once performed for most people. It is my intention to create a Social and Fraternal space for those living in southern Maine to meet, befriend and connect with other people, and to give back to the communities where we live.
This concept is closely related to events I’ve held, patterned after a Salon, in the old fashioned Victorian sense. I love to host and have people in my home, and will bring the Salon into this group as well. These are great opportunities to deepen the friendships made during other outings. So, I will be opening up my home on a regular basis for small gatherings to share amazing food, drink, and social activities. Of course I must meet you and be comfortable with you before that specific invitation can be extended. For larger gatherings the location will be public spaces, parks, and local function halls when the size demands it for similar events.
Down the road I hope to divert some group energy to volunteering at local schools or charities to give back a bit of the good energy.
