Q: Do I have to be able to speak Spanish to come to the meetup?
A: We welcome all levels from beginner to native speakers. The events are typically Spanish only, so you should be at least able to hold a basic conversation.
Q: What is the typical level in Spanish of the people who attend the meetups?
A: We have a mix of all levels. Members tend to find their groove with other members who speak at similar levels, or with more advanced speakers who are super patient and friendly.
Q: What time do people arrive and leave?
A: Some arrive on time, some stay until after the event is officially over. You are welcome to show up any time from when it starts til the end. One thing to keep in mind for new members, it is much easier to integrate into the group if you arrive on the earlier end.
Q: What if I come alone, how will I meet people?
A: Most people come alone the first time, so everyone knows how you feel. Mingle about and find a group you can mingle with.
Q: What if I forget a word in Spanish and get stuck?
A: Just say "¿Cómo se dice...?" and you'll have people happy to help you.
Q: Can I bring a friend along who doesn't speak Spanish?
A: The answer is "yes", but make sure that your friend understands that the event is held entirely in Spanish. We have seen some unhappy non-Spanish-speaking friends come along and it was a bit awkward.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: It is free but you will need to patronize the bar in which the meetup is held. We don't want to wear out our welcome at venues.
Q: Are all ages welcome? What is the typical age of members who show up for meetups?
A: We have all ages joining us. Younger members: be aware that most events are held in bars so bring your ID.
Q: Do I have to dress up? How fancy is the venue?
A: The venues are all casual. Many members come directly from work.
Q: Can I show up later?
A: Show up any time between the start time and the end time. If you plan to arrive well into the last official hour, members may be wrapping things up and getting ready to go. However this will change from event to event.
Q: I am afraid my Spanish level is not high enough, should I still come?
A: If you want to give your skills a test run and meet some other members, come try a workshop first held by professional teacher. The first one is free for members: http://abclanguagesf....
