We are a group of NYC citizens and civic technologists working to build the City's first government supported web platform that uses online technology to encourage communities to self-organize and get results from government.

The first Speak Up New York meetup was held at OpenPlans on June 11, 2010. You can read more about that event, including the notes that came out of it, here: http://etherplans.org/SpeakUpNY

This meetup group has met regularly since then eto plan and build beta version of the site, which will launch in March 2011. The site beta will include the first ever online registry of Manhattan community groups, forums for communities to connect with and learn from each other, online tools to help communities to self-organize and educational how to guides and videos on organizing and navigating government. Development will begin on creating a 2.0 version of the site by the end of the year
