We all have the capacity to oppress and dominate others at the same time that we are being oppressed and dominated. To borrow a concept from bell hooks, our cultural values stem from white supremacist, imperialist, capitalist, patriarchal ideologies whereby one group seeks to maintain power by any means necessary.

We want to explore the interconnectedness of racism, sexism, classism and heterosexism. We want to learn together how these issues impact our current relationships. It is our desire that, through these discussions, we are able to look deeply at our inner nature and accept the truth of what we’d rather not see so that we can heal our relationships with ourselves and one another. We want to learn how to intervene in a way that challenges and changes. Finally, it is our hope that these discussions expand our knowledge and develop our skills so that we can work towards a more equitable and just community and world.

Who should join this group? If you are committed to fighting injustice and oppression as it relates to race, gender, sexuality and class then this group is for you. If you understand our culture of domination and how it is manifested in white privilege, black male privilege, heterosexual privilege, class privilege, then this group is for you. We want to include radical visionaries and allies in struggle who have race, class, gender and sexuality based privilege.

The meetups will attempt to achieve the above goals through varied formats such as book discussions, lectures and small group guided discussions. They will be structured to offer networking time and then formal activities.
