So what is special needs?
"Special Needs" is an umbrella underneath which a staggering array of diagnoses can be wedged. Children with special needs may have mild learning disabilities or profound mental retardation; food allergies or terminal illness; developmental delays that catch up quickly or remain entrenched; occasional panic attacks or serious psychiatric problems. The designation is useful for getting needed services, setting appropriate goals, and gaining understanding for a child and stressed family.
This group hopes to provide support to all parents in the area that have children with special needs. We hope to provide support groups, as needed by members, and playdates for parents and children to interact with others, as well as to provide resources parents can use to assist them in caring for their children.
The group also welcomes individuals who work with special needs children, students, and adults. Your experiences are valuable learning tools for those who have children with special needs. We welcome anyone who has experience with special needs.
This group is private in hopes that no one would be afraid to voice their thoughts, while protecting their family and children and any medical information that may be posted.
Although there is no formal membership dues, donations to the cost of the website are appreciated.
