What is The Springfield Fun, Comedy and Activities group all about?
It's hard at times to make friends outside of work. It's also more fun to go to a restaurant or bar when you know you're likely to actually meet someone that you'd like to get to know and have a real conversation with. So here and there we'll meet at a restaurant, bar, or some other fun place to hang out. We'll announce the meeting before hand and hang out together!
What kinds of events do you guys have?
Its fun to try new and interesting events! Suggestions are always welcome! Events could include happy hours, dinner, comedy clubs, live music, bowling, game nights, sporting events, charity drives, dancing & more. As the weather permits, we can do some outdoor stuff like festivals, bike riding, etc!
Will I fit in? Am I the right age for this group?
If you are newly divorced, grew apart from friends, new in the area, single or married, between age 25 to "still can party with us" years old, or just don't know too many people, welcome to the group! We are warm, friendly, fun and crazy! Hopefully you will meet some great people and make some friends!
Is this a dating club?
This is NOT a hook-up group and is NOT a singles dating group. We are NOT a dating club. We welcome a variety of fun singles, married friends, races & orientations. However, if singles meet and end up dating, that's great, but please DON'T join if that's *all* you're interested in!
Is there a fee?
As you may or may not know, Meetup.com charges the organizers a monthly fee to run our meetup groups. Twice a year we will ask the members to please make a small donation of $5 to help pay to keep our group going. We will do this during January and during July. So if you have made one new friend due to The Springfield Fun, Comedy, and Activities Group, please donate $5. I don't believe that is too much to ask considering many groups like ours charge 2 or 3 dollars per event. We are a great group on Meetup thanks to the event organizers and you! I hope you will decide to donate so we can keep the group going.
How do I prepare my guest for the meetup?
If you bring a guest with please explain to them in advance what to expect at the meetup. Guests often have many questions. Also explain how the meetup fee works at the events. Twice a year we will ask the members to please make a small donation of $5 to help pay to keep our group going.
What's with the RSVPs?
It is important that you RSVP because it encourages others to participate & reinforces that we are an active group. Even a "No" RSVP is welcome, so we know you're out there and still interested.
A "Yes" RSVP should be treated like any other commitment. The organizers spend a lot of time (and in many occasions, money) to set up events & they expect you to RESPECT them & the place holding the event - it's really embarrasing to set up an event with 40 people & only have 30 show! For many events we need make reservations based on the RSVP list. Because of past issues with this, we enforce the Meetup 2-Strikes Rule in this group: 2 no-shows for ANY "limited number" or reservation-required events & you will be REMOVED from the group.
Even if there are no reservations required, it's important that we have the number of people attending so that we know to look out for you! If it's the day of an event & you can't make it, please email the Organizer of the event or call the venue.
NOTE: For a limited-seating event, if you do not update your "Maybe" RSVP to "Yes" or "No" by the cut-off date (if one is given) your RSVP will automatically be changed to a "No".
I have a side business - may I promote it within the group?
We are a social club, not a business networking group. If at all possible, we'd like to forget about work and have fun! That being said, sometimes there is a crossover with your work & social life. If you run a side business (or main business, for that matter!) & would like to promote it, please let the organizers know & we'll discuss it on a case-by-case basis.
Conduct at events:
Members will be polite and courteous to others at events.
What if I have an issue with someone in the group?
Please call it to the attention of the organizers so that it may be discussed. We reserve the right to remove any member at any time for any reason. We will not tolerate any type of harassment, intolerance or disrespect. Responsible drinking and behavior are expected at all events. Anyone who violates this policy will be removed from the group.
