Amen! My own father is guilty on this at least 5-6 times a week. The forward button is too easy and it causes more harm than good sometimes.

(Nothing personal, but I wish people would do just a little fact-checking before passing along some of these suspiciously-attributed emails.  I get at least 2 a month at work, and almost every time, a quick search on reveals them to be fakes.)

That said, I strongly disagree with the general sentiment of that letter.  It implies we should all just ignore what's going on around us that upsets us, and "look at the bright side instead".  That's the equivalent of the ostrich that sticks its head in the sand.  I complain about the negative things I see around me not because I'm a "negative person", but rather, because I still *care* enough to want to see those things fixed!

The very reason we enjoy a "better quality of life" than many other nations is because of the political system we started out under, that placed a high value on personal freedoms and individual rights.  It created a government that was supposed to be full of "checks and balances", rather than one or a few select individuals dictating the "laws of the land".  I think we're watching that quickly eroding away before our eyes, and failure to speak out in protest about it means one day, we probably WILL be forced to show "our papers" just to travel from one part of the country to another.  (National ID cards are on the way!)

Sorry to add fuel to the fire my
last posting has sparked, but I
recently got this e-mail (supposedly from David Letterman) and I
figured some of you may find it insightful...or idiotic and
out-of-touch--which ever way your own ideology swings.

P.S. My apologies to those of you who can't stand never-ending e-mail
threads. I generally can't stand them myself, but on this topic I
just couldn't resist.

David Letterman wrote this; it's the David we
don't often see...
