Tommy's & Bagels Stairhike

Details

Please join your fellow stairclimbers as we visit two LA institutions by stairs; The Original Tommy's and Brooklyn Bagels!!

We'll start at Echo Park Lake and work our way west, on the northside of the 101 freeway. We will pass by what used to be Queen of Angels Hospital. Maybe we have a member who was born at Queen of Angels! All but one of the staircases are on the north side of the 101. Then we'll head south to visit The Original Tommy's Burgers, at Beverly and Rampart. Tommy's opened in 1946!! We'll stop for a few minutes to take pictures, but will not stop to eat. Chili and hiking don't mix! Then we'll go east on Beverly to visit Brooklyn Bagels! Of course, you are welcomed to stay and eat at Tommy's, but the group will not stay for more than 5-10 minutes.

This LA institution has been making bagels since 1953!! Five years before walter o'malley stole the BROOKLYN Dodgers from their rightful home! If you had a bagel at some of the top delis in LA, they were likely made at Brooklyn Bagels! We'll stop here because after 3pm, all bagels are half priced!! A dozen bagels for about $4.50 is steal!! Brooklyn Bagels accepts credit cards but a $5 minimum purchase is required. Then we'll head back to Echo Park Lake!

If you do not want to stay at Brooklyn Bagels; continue on Beverly to Glendale Ave., make a left (going north), back to Echo Park Lake.

Starting Point:

Square One At the Boathouse

751 Echo Park Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90026

Parking:

Free street parking on Echo Park Ave. Though you may have to walk a few blocks to find it.

Time:

Please arrive at Square One Cafe by 2:00pm. Walk will start promptly at 2:15pm.

Please don't expect to arrive two minutes before the start of the hike, and for the group to wait for you to use the restroom. We will leave at 2:15pm, with or without you.

Walk should take about 2 hours.

Route- about 4.5 miles. The staircases are moderate here, nothing too steep or long. It's a mostly flat route.

Pace-

Slow/moderate pace- we will take our time on this walk. We will wait for people at the top of staircases and to regroup.

But, you are responsible for keeping pace with the group!

Reminders:

All walks should be treated like a work out. They are not guided tours!

No crashers- Please sign up for this event. Please do not just show up.

RSVP limits are set, because I don't want a huge group on these walks. So, if you RSVP only for yourself, don't bring a guest.

Please keep your RSVP updated and current. Repeated No Shows may lead to members being removed from the group.

There usually are no restrooms along these walks. Restrooms are usually only available at the starting point of the walks.

Dogs are welcomed but must be on a leash at all times.

Always bring plenty of water.

Always wear running/tennis shoes. Open toed shoes are not a good idea for these stairs walks.

Any questions or concerns please email me, David.
