Announcing the Sixth Annual Norwalk Islands Kayaker Jamboree. This will be the world biggest independent gathering of Kayakers to ever take place on the Norwalk Islands (since last year). Kayakers from ConnYak, CT AMC, Sound Kayakers, the Hudson River Kayaking Meetup, the Brandford Kayaking Meetup, The Hartford Kayaking Meetup, The Tuesday Night Paddlers, and any other group are welcome to come and to invite friends. The Jamboree will span the entire weekend. Some people will camp friday and saturday, but day paddlers are welcome to attend. To participate in the full day of activities most people will come to the Saturday morning meetup paddle time, but you are welcome to come over any day at any time. We encurage that you paddle in pods of three or more. Check the weather and tide, and always be aware of the boat traffic. Paddle safe.
For those that want to come over for just the day (or one night) we are having a second meetup so you can paddle together. The saturday morning meetup will be at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. Some may want to Meetup at another time or location. Possible put-in spots are Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, the Rowayton Community Beach on the Five Mile River, or State Boat Ramp on the Saugatuck River. Please specify in your RSVP where you plan to launch from and what time (if it is not at Calft Pasture at 9:00 AM) so others can meetup with you and paddle in a group. The Jamboree will be on Shea Island. We will try to meet at noon on the Island. We will begin activites at 10 AM. Our first activity will be an Environmentalist presentation. Camp sites are reserved for Friday night and Saturday night. Any one can paddle over to the island and join the Jamboree. You must bring your own gear, supplies, food, and beverages. If you plan to paddle to the island on Saturday then RSVP on this page. If you plan to join the group on Friday then RSVP on the Friday event page: Camp sites are reserved by SKG in advance. We are asking that participants make a $5 contribution to the SKG. If you are not camping, please consider making a $2 contribution. You can pay via Paypal, but add $0.50 to cover Paypal fees. Any size contribution will be accepted. money collected will be used to pay for misc. YakJam cost and any extra money collected will be donated to a local environmental awareness and preservation group. We are planning to do an Island Clean up on Sunday morning. We hope every one can join us for this. We try to clean the island of trash that has gathered over the previous year. Please bring heave duty garbage bags and gloves. Yes, unless you have sail boat, motor boat, or can swim very well, you must have a kayak. Kayaks can be rented from the Small Boat Shop, Downunder Kayaks, EMS, or Outdoor Sports. You should reserve your boat soon as available rentals may be short on the days leading up to the Jamboree. Yes, if you do not want to camp, you can still paddle over to the Island and join the festivities on both Saturday and Sunday. To RSVP for Friday or Sunday go to the Friday or Sunday meetup page.
