Recap: Would you buy a used fighter from this man?

To start, we played a short one on one frigate battle for Josh to give him some exposure to the rules. Josh played a Klingon F5 Frigate, while I played a Federation Improved Frigate. We closed distance. Josh fired his disruptors and phasers, while I hit him with a photon/phaser barrage. I also launched a drone to distract him. Josh and I turned away from each other. I circled around behind him while he maneuvered and took out my drone. On the third turn, I launched another photon/phaser attack, which took out another shield and caused major internal damage. After this, I stopped, reinforced shields and waited for another opportunity to attack. Josh circled around to get his remaining disruptor in arc, which he fired, causing minor damage to one shield. I unleashed another phaser attack, which rendered his ship powerless. The Klingons self-destructed to avoid capture.

For a first-time player, Josh did well. It was a chance to see how energy allocation works, and to get a feel for the game in general.

Our Main Event was the planned scenario. We got a late start, but did our best to get through as much of it as we could. I played Honest Abdul, Nick played Mad Jack, David played the Kzinti, James played the WYN, and Josh played the Klingons.

We all began moving roughly toward Nick's base/moon in the center of the map. Nick positioned his fighter squadrons in a tight patrol pattern around his moon--a silent challenge to anyone with malicious intent. I began moving toward the moon to deliver my fighters. Meanwhile, Josh moved toward James and began his assault. After being initially fired at, James locked a tractor beam on the Klingon frigate and began pummeling it. The Klingons retaliated, and soon both ships were suffering significant damage. James got the upper hand, however, and rendered the Klingon frigate powerless. The Kzinti meanwhile were carefully approaching the base from the other side, being careful not to get too close. I came to a stop a couple hexes from Mad Jack's base.

I opened up communications with the other players--Nick vowed to protect me, whereas the Kzint, Klingons, and WYN negotiated for my fighters. The Kzinti bid was too low, so it was rejected. The Klingons offered 2 crystals for a Romulan fighter, which was accepted. The WYN offered five crystals for five of the other fighters, which was also accepted. My Orion ships lowered their shields, and we performed transporter actions to exchange payment. I began launching the piloted shuttles, and relinquished control to their new owners. David took advantage of this and launched disruptor attacks into the open shield of my carrier! Nickl responded by turning his fighters toward the Kzinti and launching a massive drone attack. Josh took control of his new Romulan fighter and moved it toward his other ships. James, however, used his five new fighters to attack Mad Jack's bases!

Nick and I defended his bases, destroying some of James' new fighters, which then turned away to flee. The Kzinti meanwhile turned away from the center of the map and used numerous ADD attacks to eliminate the swarm of drones heading his way. He was able to eliminate all 18 drones, but this left him near the edge of the map; he would have to turn around and make a new approach.

At this point we ran out of time. We totaled the victory points, and no one actually succeeded in his secret mission. The missions were: Nick--defend Honest Abdul; David--kill Jack and Abdul; James--kill Jack and Abdul; Josh--kill enemy ships; Me--deliver fighters to Mad Jack. I came the closest, with 9 points. I believe David came in a close second place with 8. This was an extremely chaotic scenario. It would be interesting to replay it at some point in the future, when we have enough time to play it completely through.
