Game Recap from 07-07-2012

Greetings Starship Captains!
Contrary to our Intended Plans, we only had a chance to play one scenario on Saturday:

Coalition vs. Andromedan Invaders!
After several incursions into their space, the Klingons and Romulans decided to deploy a small joint force to engage the interlopers. The Klingons provided an old C6 Dreadnought, while the Romulans provided one WER Cruiser and two Snipe-B Frigates (played by Gren, Spencer (new guy!), Jim, and myself). The Andromedan forces consisted of an Intruder mothership carrying a Terminator Mauler, a Courier Scout, and an Energy Module (played by Nick and James).
The battle began with the Andromedans moving at high speed (27 & 30) toward the Coalition ships. Gren cloaked his SNB, but the Intruder was able to maintain its lockon. The Andromedans got close enough and used the INT's DisDev to displace the Klingon Dreadnought. This was done twice, but bad die rolls only moved the ship further from the attackers each time. Jim and I now found ourselves somewhat separated from the other Coaltion ships due to the DisDev operations, and turned to regroup, launching Plasma Torpedoes at the Intruder.
Meanwhile, the Terminator got within pointblank range of the C6 and opened up with its Mauler, causing 52 points of damage, which ripped down the #1 shield of the Dreadnought and did moderate internal damage. Some Transporter Bombs were also laid in the path of the C6, which was also dragged one hex backwards from a hastily conceived Tractor Beam operation (which was released one impulse later). The C6 doled out some minor damage to the INT and the Courier in return. The Andromedans deployed a PA Mine to severly weaken the incoming Plasma-R (50-point) Torpedo. They turned and used their speed to further weaken the torpedoes, and to acquire good firing solutions on the drones fired by the C6.
My own WER cloaked and began recharging its Plasma-R. I also began maneuvering into position for my next attack. Gren began partially de-cloaking, then re-cloaked to try and break the weapons lockon that the INT was able to maintain. Jim also began recharging his Torpedoes.
Gren was the first to initiate his next attack. He de-cloaked and attacked the Courier and Intruder with Plasma Torpedoes and Phasers. The attacks included a couple Pseudo-Plasma Torpedoes, which caused the Andromedans to waste a bit of Phaser fire on them. The real torpedoes hit, but the Andromedan Mauler opened up again and blew the SNB to dust. The Klingon C6 spent this time repairing some of its damaged systems.
The Andromedans slowed to speed 10 and began coming around to re-engage the Klingons and Romulans, but struck TWO Nuclear Space Mines laid by Jim and myself (at 35 points of damage EACH--all during the same turn!). The Terminator was utterly destroyed, and the PA panels on the INT were filled to capacity, and then some. The Intruder transported the Courier back into its hangar bay, and used its DisDev to escape the battle.
This battle was a decisive victory for the Coaltion forces. The Coalition destroyed one SatShip (the Terminator), scored internal damage on the Intruder and the Courier, and forced the survivors to withdraw. The Andromedans destroyed one Frigate, and scored some internal damage on the Klingon C6. Tactically, the addition of an Energy Module to the Andromedan mothership greatly increased its effectiveness, but they were still defeated, due in no small measure to striking the two NSMs. It was generally agreed that this scenario would be interesting to replay again in the future.
The battle lasted four turns, and took about six hours to play. This was due to the combination of Andromedan rules and cloaking rules all in play at the same time, which made this probably the most complex (but most interesting) session we have had. The Andromedans (as a race) still have not lived up to their reputation, and successful tactics for them remain to be discovered. However, congratulations are still in order for Nick, who did a good job in the attempt.
