Plasmas vs. Drones--the full scenario
We managed to squeeze in the first four turns of the full Plasmas vs. Drones scenario. The Gorn and the Klingons squared off again, this time with six ships on each team. James and I played the Klingons, while Nick and Gren played the Gorn.
The game started with drone and plasma exchanges. (There's a shock!) Both teams did a good job of countering their opponents' seeking weapons. However, the Klingons were able to close to good Disruptor range and score some considerable damage to the Gorn CLF. The Gorn ship turned away while began conducting shield repairs, while the remaining ships in the fleet assaulted the Klingons with plasmas. The Klingon phasers were able to whittle them down to nothing, though. The Gorn were busy countering drone swarms.
The Gorn CL circled around, and managed to repair its down shield. The remaining Gorn fleet maneuvered itself away and deposited transporter bombs to deal with the latest waves of incoming Klingon drones. The Klingon ships circled back around and again assaulted the Gorn CL, this time crippling it. A follow-up attack finished it off before the rest of the Gorn fleet could make it back around to assist. However, the Gorn launched another wave of plasma torpedoes. The Klingons maneuvered to optimize their phaser fire, but a few of the torpedoes got through. Some follow-up phaser fire and plasma bolts caused light damage to three of the Klingon ships and crippled a fourth.
At this point, we ran out of time. (Our sincere apologies to Bill and the Arsenal staff for our extremely late departure!) If we had continued, the following turn or two would have been interesting. The Klingons would have attacked another Gorn ship with concentrated Disruptor and drone attacks while the Gorn would have been fighting to re-arm their plasmas. Meanwhile, the Gorn would have had significant phaser barrages to counter with.
As before, this scenario posed significant tactical challenges to both sides. Even as veteran players, we had to carefully consider our actions. The outcome of this partial-scenario was as follows (roughly estimating point values):
Scored 79.5 points
12.6 for scoring internal damage on Klingon D5K
14.7 for scoring internal damage on Klingon D5D
43.5 for crippling Klingon F5K #1
8.7 for scoring internal damage on Klingon F5K #2
Scored 128 points
128 for destroying Gorn CLF
The scenario seemed well-balanced. Neither side seemed to have a clear advantage at any given time. We all agreed that this has been one of the more challenging and engaging scenarios we have played.
