Hosted in collaboration with The Yard coworking community, this event offers a platform for startups to share ideas, gather feedback, and connect with fellow founders.
š Date: Thursday, May 16
š Time: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
š Venue: The Yard: Herald SquareBegin with happy hour drinks while mingling with fellow founders and members of The Yard. The spotlight soon shifts to five emerging startups who will take the stage to pitch their visions.
This is not a competition -- it's an opportunity for founders to showcase their projects, exchange insights, and receive constructive feedback from founder peers.
Whether you're a startup enthusiast, an industry professional, or a curious mind, Pitches and Pints will be an engaging and inspiring afternoon to celebrate entrepreneurship, foster connections, and toast the spirit of innovation.
PITCH FORMAT
- Pitch - 5 minutes
- Audience Q&A - 5 minutes
- Pitch deck is required
Our longtime friend Mike Wilner, previously from the Startup Team at AWS, shares advice below on the art of pitching and the deck:
- Keep your narrative crisp
- Be opinionated and non-obvious
- Make sure there's an "oh shit" moment, and convey that it will be a venture-scale business
- Frame progress in terms of what you've actually figured out -- don't jump to arbitrary KPIs
Additionally, he advises that your fundraising narrative should be a concise, memorable explanation of what you're building, why you're fundraising, and why someone should invest. It should answer 5 questions:
- What are you building?
- Why will you win?
- How have you de-risked your business so far?
- How will you de-risk your business in the near future?
- What will the future look like if you're successful?

- Elevating Tech Week: PitchSLAM Rooftop Special at Startup (Coffee) GrindThe Yard, New York, NY
Join us for a special edition of Startup (Coffee) Grind -- in collaboration with The Yard -- during NYC Tech Week on Wednesday, June 5
TL;DR
- Come to the LES rooftop
- Have a coffee, meet founders
- Sip mimosas, pitch your startup
This month, we're elevating our regular coffee chat to The Yard's LES rooftop with views of the city skyline. šļø
This midday gathering for early-stage founders and stakeholders is a chance to ditch your work-from-home routine and engage with fellow makers and builders.
In addition to our signature coffee and casual chats, we're spiking the conversations with mimosas to kickstart your networking. š„
And one more thing... we're introducing a twist. Join us and you might have the opportunity to pitch your startup on the spot during Startup Grind PitchSLAM. Whether you're had a few (funding) rounds or are just starting out, seize the moment to share your vision with the community.
We'll take names until 12pm noon and randomly select 5 founders to pitch your startup for 5 minutes. Audience Q&A to follow. Bring a thumb drive with your slides in PDF format, and we'll take care of the rest.*
Free to attend. Swing by anytime between 11:00am and 2:00pm to get a first look at new tech being developed in New York, and connect with peers to share insights, experiences, and strategies for building your idea. š”
*Slides are required in order to pitch. Selected founders without slides in PDF format on a thumb drive or emailed to Startup Grind on the spot will forfeit their opportunity to pitch
