Trip Hawkins, Electronic Arts, If You Can

Trip Hawkins is the founder of four interactive entertainment companies, including Electronic Arts (1982), The 3DO Company (1990), Digital Chocolate (2003), and most recently If You Can (http://www.ifyoucan.org/). Trip graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in Strategy and Applied Game Theory. He then pursued his MBA at Stanford University. Hired after college as Apple Computer's director of marketing, officially the company's 68th employee, Hawkins began developing plans to create a software business that would eventually become Electronic Arts (EA). Hawkins founded the company in 1982, funding it with his own money. Recently he announced that he's started a new company called If You Can whose mission is to "support and empower children and parents to value and understand themselves and others. By doing so, we believe we can build a better world: for today and for our children tomorrow. We believe that by learning how to persevere through challenge, to feel and show empathy and to make responsible decisions, all of us can be better friends, learners, parents, mentors and citizens." If You Can is funded by Greylock, Andreessen Horowitz, Maveron, and Founder's Fund.
