Aside from the opportunity to fill your lungs full of fresh(ish) air(We’re still in Dublin after all), and surround yourself with wonderful techy types, the Tibradden mountain which lies between the Cruagh and Kilmashogue mountains is in the midst of beautiful woods of Scots pine, Japanese larch, European larch, Sitka spruce, oak and beech. (Prizes for those who can differentiate between them) Examples of old pine woods planted in 1910 can still be seen. Heather, furze, gorse and bilberry grow in abundance and Sika deer, foxes and badgers are to be seen. The geology consists mainly of granite and the southern slopes of the site are strewn with granite boulders.
The general route would entail starting at the forest entrance on the left of the map. We would then go across Cruagh on the blue path, turn left where the yellow route starts towards ZipIt. The Cruagh area has been considered to embrace some of the most fantastic views over the whole of Dublin city. You're then onto Tibradden as far as the Cairn and this is the highest point on Tibradeen. The site is a registered National Monument and a aside from the fact it’s a place of burial, a perfect spot for lunch! We then hope to continue back along the original route and head to the Merry Ploughman, for songs chats and the beginning of wonderful nerd fitness friendships!
