At Boxee, we will get a tour of the office, including the space they sublet to other startups, have drinks with the Boxee team and enjoy a technical presentation. This will be the first company our tour has a physical consumer product, not just a web product.

A lot of your favorite shows and movies are already on the internet. Boxee is a device that finds them and puts them on your TV. Boxee uses PHP, MySQL and they implament MVP methodologies. For our event, Tatum Lade, Head of US R&D for Boxee will tell give us insight into the unique engineering challenges of developing a product that streams internet video to your television. I can’t wait!

Next we will visit AppNexus. We will get to tour their new floor! They just renovated and will be opening up their expanded office space just in time for our visit. We’ll join them for pizza and a technical presentation.

AppNexus is the world leader in real-time advertising technology, advertising, including Microsoft Advertising Exchange, Collective and Technorati Media. Led by the pioneers of the Web’s original ad exchanges at Yahoo!’s Right Media and Google’s DoubleClick, AppNexus offers the industry’s most advanced technology platform that empowers companies to build, manage and optimize their entire online advertising businesses. AppNexus processes 12 TB of data every day generated by more than 20 billion ad calls, and their client-facing API is accessed by hundreds of companies daily. The Director of Engineering, Ersin Yilmaz, will be giving a dive into their tech stack and the challenges involved in hourly data reporting and API access at such a large scale.

As always, it's fascinating to talk to the developers at these companies, learn about the culture and understand a bit about different approaches to problems they face.

Overall it was well organized. Both hosts seemed a little rough with respect to their presentations but the access and Q&A sessions were great for both sessions.

Great event as usual. Nice to meet fellow engineers that are on the cutting edge of technology and innovation! In my personal opinion this is one of the top events for technologists interested in NYC's startup scene. Great way to get an inside look at the company's culture and technology stack.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
