4th Anthology Participant Meetup - ONLINE

  • Jul 19, 2014 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

-You will not be added to a group until your file is posted.

-If I do not hear from you by the submission deadline, I will assume that you are not interested in participating anymore, and remove you from the project.

-Members who cannot attend will be responsible for interacting with me, and their group members, online.

-Barring any medical issues, you should have your file posted by 7/14.

This meetup is only for participants of the fiction anthology.

Because this will take place at a residential location, the address will be emailed to you after you RSVP.

For this meetup, please read and critique ONLY your group-members' files. You will not be allowed to comment on any files except for those of your group-members.

Your 8,000-word files must be uploaded by Monday, 7/14. (Alex and Nancy are only required to post 4,000 words). Even if you are writing multiple stories, you must post all 8,000 words in a single file.

Re-writes are due from several of you. If you were voted to do a re-write during the last anthology meetup, please do so.

FEES: Payments for meetups is no longer mandatory, but a $1 donation per person per meetup would be appreciated to help me cover the monthly $19 website fee.

READINGS-
Joanne will read files for Susan, Nancy, Sevey, and JP.
Nancy will read files for Joanne, Alex, and Susan.
Susan will read files for Nancy, Alex, and JP.
Alex will read files for Sevey, Joanne, and Nancy.

Note: Please check dates so you avoid reading old versions of posted anthology stories. Make sure the file you read is the 8,000-word one, and not the 6,000-word version.

We are NO LONGER having a physical meetup for this. I will send each of you my email address. Please email me your critique for the stories you are responsible for reading by 11:59 PM Saturday.

Join or login to comment.

Okay Joanne, I'll read your story and email you ASAP.

    July 21, 2014

    • Joanne

      Thank you Susan!

      July 21, 2014

  • Nancy C

Gee, was it something I said?

I already have a crit for Sevey's first story (Lazarus Bound), so I will send that on to you later. It will take me a day to do the second short story.

    July 20, 2014

    • Joanne

Thanks a bunch Nancy. And no, it definitely wasn't you.

      July 20, 2014

  • Joanne

Updated list. I will be sending messages to Nancy, Susan, and Sevey to request that they do an extra critique by next week to compensate for Alex's idiocy. Thanks in advance guys, I know this whole round in the anthology has been a train-wreck, but we'll get through it. :)

Joanne will read files for Nancy, Sevey, and JP.
Nancy will read files for Joanne, Susan, SEVEY.
Susan will read files for Nancy, JP, JOANNE.
Sevey will read files for Susan, JP, NANCY.
JP will read files for Susan, Joanne, Sevey.

Hey everyone, it appears that Alex gave this meetup a 1-star rating then left the group because he couldn't handle doing critiques for 3 other people. As hilarious as I find his immaturity to be, and as relieved as I am that we didn't invest too much time in this guy, I am also regretful that a lot of us (myself included) invested time in critiquing his stories. And for that, I am sorry. I may reach out to some of you to help me balance the votes. Just give me a little while to re-organize things.

JP - again, I have not heard from you. If you're having an issue with the critiques, it's important to post a comment, or send me a message, instead of leaving us all in the dark.

Lastly, I think it's important for everyone to realize that this isn't my anthology. You are not doing it for me, you are doing it for yourselves. If this is something that you do not want to do, then don't. I will not continue to hound people. It is not my responsibility.

    July 20, 2014

  • Joanne

UPDATE- We are NO LONGER having a physical meetup for this. I will send each of you my email address. Please email me your CRITIQUE and VOTES for the stories you are responsible for by 11:59 PM Saturday and I will distribute them accordingly.

    July 15, 2014

    • Joanne

Sorry JP, we'll have to try to have a meetup at your place another time. Hopefully you won't have eaten all the snacks by then :)

Alright, but it's going to have to happen before the end of August. Students are coming on August 10th and we have cleanup and renovations before then.

      July 19, 2014

  • Joanne

Hi everyone - please email your critiques & votes to me at [masked]
Once I get them all I will distribute them via email.
I also need Alex and Nancy's email addresses.
    Thanks :)

    July 17, 2014

    • Joanne

Also please note that Sevey has two files for a combined 8,000ish words.

      July 17, 2014

  • Susan C.

    Joanne;

So with the critiques, we just post them as we did
    with our files?

    Susan

    July 17, 2014

  • Susan C.

    Nancy;
I'd be okay with the meetup at my house,
it's in Tottenville. I have a decent size Living room
    and large dining room table.

    Susan

    July 17, 2014

  • Nancy C

JP, if we did a meetup on a weeknight, could we use your place?

    July 17, 2014

  • Susan C.

A week night would be okay with me.

    July 15, 2014

    Anthology Participants
You have until 11:59 PM tomorrow to post your anthology story, or to contact me regarding why your story isn't posted, and the specific day it will be posted. If I do not hear from you, I am going to have to remove you from the anthology. I cannot continue to-
-Clear my schedule to arrange meetups then have to cancel them.
-Have to pay the meetup.com fee on my own because of cancelled meetups.
-Put the anthology on hold for those who are not meeting deadlines.
If you cannot attend the physical meetup on Saturday, you will have to participate by sending & receiving your votes/critiques online. I understand that we are all busy. Please keep me informed so that I can determine our best options regarding the group and the anthology.
Lastly, I am looking for some new assistant organizers willing to run regular meetups in their usual format. Please let me know if you are interested.
    Thanks,
    Sophia

    • Joanne

Hi Rian, you're welcome to participate in the anthology. We're just going to need 4,000 words from you by tonight, or you'll have to wait to join in at the next anthology meetup with 6,000 words.

      July 14, 2014

    • Nancy C

I would be willing to run a regular meetup.

      1 · July 15, 2014

  • Nancy C

I've already done a critique for Alex's story, and after putting the time in, it seems like a waste not to use it. I can still do the other three critiques.

    July 15, 2014

    • Joanne

No prob, I will modify the list then.

      July 15, 2014

    • Joanne

*FIXED. I took Sevey's, then gave Alex's back to you.

      July 15, 2014

  • Nancy C

Would anybody be interested in doing a meet-up on a weeknight? Like at 7pm? Considering that most of us have obligations on weekends, maybe we could try something different...

    July 15, 2014

  • Joanne

    UPDATE-
Joanne will read files for Susan, Nancy, Alex, and JP.
Nancy will read files for Joanne, Sevey, and Susan.
Susan will read files for Nancy, Alex, and JP.
Alex will read files for Sevey, Joanne, and Nancy.
Sevey will read files for Alex, Susan, and JP.
JP will read files for Susan, Joanne, Sevey.

As neither were able up upload completed files, Rian and Nicole will not be participating this round.

***Being that several members are not physically available this Saturday, we may exchange critique and votes online. CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES!

I will no longer be participating in the anthology. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to share your thoughts and good luck on your stories

    July 14, 2014

  • Joanne

Just to be clear to everyone else - once you drop out of the anthology, you cannot return to it. To quote myself from december (and you can find this in the discussions): "This list will not be modified unless someone drops out. No new participants will be added unless there is an opening. Once you drop out, you cannot be added back onto the list (but someone else can take the "opening" you make). If you would like to be participate in the anthology, please let me know. People who have not attended meetups cannot participate in the anthology."
Nicole is an obvious exception, as she is having health problems, and just had a baby. Other exceptions would be people who never officially joined the anthology for lack of submitting words.

  • Susan C.

Yes, Joanne, I'll be able to make it Saturday. My plans to travel to Florida haven't panned out.

    July 13, 2014

    • Joanne

Sorry to hear that Susan, but glad you'll be able to make it!

      July 14, 2014

  • Susan C.

I'm sorry two members can't make it. You'll
    both be missed.

    2 · July 11, 2014

    • Joanne

Susan, are you going to make it, or will you be away this Saturday? Please be sure to update your RSVP.

I'm running in a 5K on this saturday 7/19 and can't make it...I will ensure my file is uploaded and make critiques. Do agree with Susan though, especially given that it is summer, I feel these dates are being selected without enough notice in advance to complete the writing and read member's files.

    July 10, 2014

    • Joanne

Sorry for the inconvenience. This meetup was scheduled to replace the cancelled meetup, which, combined, gave members about a month to prepare their story. Some members have already completed their 8,000 words, and it seems unfair that they would have to wait a whole additional month to accommodate members who did not submit their stories on time.

      Ok sounds like a plan

      July 11, 2014

  • Nancy C

I just checked, and I can't make this date--we have someplace to be at 3pm that day (which I already RSVP'd for a week ago). My bad. I'm happy to critique the files and email them, even tho I'm really annoyed I can't make this.

    July 8, 2014

    • Joanne

      Sorry about that Nancy.

      July 10, 2014

  • Susan C.

Then why did you ask about August dates????

Some of us may have made travel plans. (this is
summer vacation time) just like when you took a
    month off). Susan

    July 7, 2014

    • Joanne

If you have vacation plans, that is understandable. All you had to do was say so. We can give you critique on your file once you come back.
After my 2 & 1/2 week vacation I was sick, Nicole had her baby, & the majority of members were unavailable.

      July 8, 2014

  • Nancy C

July 20 or 27 ( I think those are both Sundays?)

    July 7, 2014

    • Joanne

Sorry Nancy, I just found out that I have to work Sundays from now on.

      July 7, 2014

  • Susan C.

Aug. 2, 3rd 9th or 10th are good for me.

    Thanks, Susan

    July 6, 2014

    • Joanne

Sorry Susan, but I'd prefer to do this sooner than August. If anything, you can interact with your group-members online.

      July 7, 2014

  • Joanne

Nancy - I have to agree with you. I'm going to schedule this meetup, and those who can attend will attend. Those who cannot will have to meet deadlines and correspond online. Unless there is a medical issue, I think members should be able to participate. We all have busy lives. It's all about time-management.

    July 7, 2014

  • Nancy C

I'm going to throw this out there, because it's something I know is true: writers need submission deadlines or they will never actually finish writing a specific piece. The same is true for this anthology. Just sayin'...maybe we need to have a meeting sooner rather than a month from now.
