From Linda: This Sunday, 10/27, East End Appalachian Jam is hosting a beginner's jam from 12:30 to 2 p.m at Hambones. This will be strictly old time music, designed to get people comfortable playing in our regular jams. I thought this would be a good opportunity for Steel City Ukulele members to get comfortable playing by ear. We use no music and there will be a guitar player there that can give chord changes as they occur. We are only playing in the keys of D, G, and A, so that should make it easy to identify the chords used in those keys. The pace will be slower than our usual jams. As far as teaching goes, we are mostly focusing on teaching fiddle players if they don't know the songs yet, so they can record them or try to play along. In an old time jam, the fiddles lead and the other strings provide the rhythm. This is the first time we did a beginner's jam, so we are just kind of winging it for now!!

Like I said, this might be a good opportunity for ukuleles to play by ear and identify chord changes without printed music. HERE is their web site page. There is a Facebook page for the East End Appalachian Jam if you want to check it out!
