Enjoyed the 2/5 of Vasco de gama we played. Nice action allocation mechanism with a slight gamble involved.

Sorry guys, fully intended on being there but fell down our killer stairs and ended up spending the night in A&E instead. Not as much fun I can assure you!

Bad luck Kenda. Hope to see you soon.

Jeez, so sorry to hear what happened! Hope to see you next time...

Got in a game of Cycladies and a new game 'infinite city'. Won both, so obviously I thought it was a good night... ;-)

A lot of people bailed at the last moment, so only 8 of us. But that made for two 4 player groups.

No, I had 2 philoshpers, a port/temple/uni so I needed athena to get two more philosophers and the war god for the barracks - so still at least two turns to get those. But then the 'change a building' monster came up, so I bid on athena and bought the card. So 1 free philosopher, buy another uni, use the monster to change to a barracks - 1 metropolis - then buy a 2nd philiosopher for 4 coins - 2 metropolisis and victory! I was only speculating about the buying more than one, as at then end I had so much money I could have bought tons of them...

oh sorry, you were talking about preists... yes one per turn and stole 1. The war god only came out twice and everyone else *really* wanted athena or the sea god, so I kept getting stuck with preists...

Thoroughly enjoyed Cycladies, didn't see that final move coming though John, very clever! I think next time I'll probably lay off sinking people's navy's quite so much!

As Liam said at the start the monsters are the key to victory, and when someone wins it's usually because they used one or more of the cards to do something clever rather than simply getting a metropolis and two philosophers and then trying to outbid everybody for Athena (though that nearly worked!). Tactically speaking I was in a very poor position - only 3 buildings and I couldn't get the 4th (and let's face it there would have been a huge punch up for the war god if he had come out), and only 2 philosophers. So I wasn't even close to one metropolis, and no chance of stealing anyone elses because of no god of war... My plan only hatched in that very last round because of the 'change a building card' and Athena coming up together... and of course it relied on nobody spotting it and screwing it up...

and of course I had a HUGE stash of money, because I had like 6 preist cards which meant not only could I get cheap stuff with high bids, but I could force everyone else to overpay... 8-) But that's all your own fault for keep stealing my gods and lumbering me with the stupid preiest god so often!

As will I, might be a few minutes late though.

  • Sarantis M.

As I see I am not the only one jumping off the wagon last minute due to work... Too much work, so little time... :(

    May 23, 2013

  • Ryan F.

I'm going to have to duck out of this evening due to work commitments.

    May 23, 2013

  • Mark H.

busy busy day and running late so am gonna have to pass :(

    May 23, 2013

  • Tony A.

Not gonna make it either - was hoping to sneak along but there's just too much to do as we are off to the expo as soon as I finish work tomorrow. Have fun all.

Unfortunately I am going to have to "cry off" again I have a team building session and I think I will be too tired in the evening to give my best. See you all next time.

Was thinking of getting Terra Mystica, but being a relative newcomer to these boardgames, and not owning any 'heavy' boardgames to date, I think its rule-set is scaring me off ("so let me see now, power lets you do this, and you can gain it by people building adjacent to you, and you need to terraform the land to build, and advance your shipping, oh and don't forget the cult-tracks and the priests...")! ;-)

I think one of the club members has T'zolkin - I'm sure I've seen the box there.

      May 19, 2013

    • Tony C.

      That's a shame - I could have avoided getting a duplicate...ah well...

      May 21, 2013

  • Daniel

looking forward to seeing what's what!

How do all, Just joined and am looking at popping over on Thursday to see what's what. Any idea what will be thrown down? Also the welcome email says Pin green community centre but this says Asda, which is the venue?

    May 17, 2013

    • Tony A.

Ooh, yeah, sorry - didn't mean to demand money with menaces! John would know, though, as fee collection (and change wrangling) usually falls to him.....he's the one who arrives in the new sports car.... ;)

Dan, welcome. I'm planning to bring "Vasco de Gama" along, but whether it gets to the table is another matter.

      May 17, 2013

  • Duncan H.

As it is that time of year I will bring Giro D'Italia along for any of you Wiggo's or Cav's out there.

    May 4, 2013

    • Tony C.

Would definitely prefer trying the game to actually trying the real event! ;-)

      May 13, 2013

  • Tim G.

I can bring along "Vasco de Gama" if anyone would like to play it.

    May 6, 2013

    • Tony A.

Not knocking the game, btw, I'd give it a go! Mr. Vasel's stuff is quite entertaining but I often find myself thinking that he is talking nonsense.

      May 6, 2013

    • Tony C.

Sounds good, Tim - count me in!

      May 13, 2013

  • Daniel P.

    On holiday again. Gutted!

    May 9, 2013

    • Tony C.

Dan, it must be horrible to be you, what with all those holidays you have to keep taking...! ;-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
