I'm a student of soto zen. I was a student of the late Joko Beck, teacher at San Diego ZC. My teacher is Genmyo Smith, Joko's first Dharma heir. I took the precepts 15 years ago. I lead two sitting groups, hoping to have enough people to hold 2 or 3 day zen Intensives. We are having morning intensives at the present time. We will begin attending 2 day seshins at Milwaukee ZC. These are offered every other month.
Yes, I have a sitting practice and read zen books. I love reading and always have 3 or 4 books being read at the same time. I suggest a book "everything is the WAY" by Elihu Genmyo Smith. In addition I suggest all of Ezra Bayda's books, he is also a Dharma Heir of Joko's. His books are written in a very accessible style. A helpful part of my practice is my life partnership in marriage. Nothing mirrors back to us how we've doing than how easy/difficult our relationships with people are. Our partners have the circuit board with all our buttons on it. People are the most important part of our lives. In addition to people in my life, I love making flower arrangements, the style is Japanese Ikebana. I also love quilting and work in other textiles. I'm a active master gardener for 10 years, and an organic seat of the pants gardener beginning at 16 years of age. I've been living in Two Rivers, Wisconsin for the past 15 years. It's a beautiful state and I love the weather here.
Your location and buddhism. I like the choices you suggest in reading and video material. Thank you for being accessible on the net.
Gassho, We are putting our home on the market to sell in April or May, of 2015. When the house sells, we will move to Stuart, Florida. We will probably purchase a condo. We may come to visit and I could begin getting to know all of you.
How wonderful there are so many of you coming together for a talk on 'emptiness'. Have a warm and loving discussion together. Hopefully it will be helpful to your practice.
