New Meetup: Vegan Bake Sale December 5, 2010

From: Kathy
Sent on: Sunday, November 7, 2010 7:48 PM
Announcing a new Meetup for Suburban Chicago Vegetarian Meetup!

What: Vegan Bake Sale

When: Sunday, December 5,[masked]:15 AM

Where: Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist
1025 N Smith St 3 blocks south of Dundee RD. and Smith
Palatine, IL 60067

We're hosting a Vegan Bake Sale at Countryside Unitarian Church! For those of you who have attended our past bake sales, I'm sure you remember the amazing baked goods, and the HUGE crowd of hungry folks. All proceeds will be donated to Save-A-Pet no-kill animal shelter in Grayslake. They are in desperate need of funds and may have to close their doors very soon. They care for hundreds of cats and dogs and provide a much needed service in our area. For more information, please visit their website at:

Our past sales have been a great success, but this time we'd like to do even better! This bake sale will be held in conjunction with a Fair Trade fair at Countryside, and we have been told to bring even more items than before because it is a popular event. So we need YOUR help! If you would like to donate a baked good, you can drop it off by 9:30 am at Countryside, or arrange a drop-off at my house in Mundelein with me. Don't want to bake but want to enjoy the sweets? Come join us and purchase some yummy baked goods. There are now two coffee hours at Countryside, so you will have a chance to stop by at 10:15am and at 12:00pm.

If you're not familiar with vegan baking, check your local library or bookstore to see what cookbooks they offer. Vegan baking does not include dairy (butter, milk, cream cheese, etc.), eggs, or honey. There are wonderful products out there such as Earth Balance, agave nectar, flaxseed, and Ener-G Egg Replacer you can use instead.

When you rsvp, please state whether you are baking, attending, etc. We'll also need a few volunteers to help man the tables. If you're baking something, you can put it on a platter with your name on the bottom and we'll get it back to you. We'll also bring a few platters you can use. Don't worry about pricing, we'll take care of that.

Hope to see you there!
