Location Services Double Play

Join us for our first meetup in the First Wave Venture Center in downtown Tampa's Rivergate Tower, commonly known as the Sykes Building. We'll open with a tour of the center, which takes up the entire 2nd floor, with lovely views of University of Tampa, Curtis Hixton Park, and the Hillsborough River. Then, we'll have a half hour talk, where Aubrey Goodman teams up again with Justin Davis, user experience specialist and founder of Madera Labs, to discuss the evolution of the Matryoshka location service. This alpha product and joint venture of several Tampa Bay Wave members aims to offer a RESTful web service API for social features surrounding location data. Matryoshka provides opt-in infrastructure support for following location updates. For more back story, listen to the Distilled podcast (, starring Aubrey and Justin.

After your minds are warmed up from an invigorating talk about cutting edge technology, Aubrey will host a guided hackathon. He'll cover some aspects of web service clients, map overlays, geo-fencing, push notifications, and maybe gyro device integration. You can expect a heavy dose of CocoaPods, RestKit 0.20, MapKit, CoreLocation, and a smattering of Core Data.

Kind of rushed. Presenters knew their stuff but meetup would have benefited from more preparation.
