TO MAINTAIN QUALITY, OUR GROUP IS NOT ACCEPTING ANY ADDITIONAL MEMBERS AT THIS TIME. EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE FOR MEMBERS REJOINING OUR GROUP OR IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS ALSO LOOKING TO JOIN OUR GROUP.
Chris Pagoto, Roslyn Sportime GM has extended two considerations to our group. 1) Discounted court fees for our group on Sunday nights. 2) NO Sportime membership required to play with our group during our time slot. Why do we get these considerations? Because our program benefits the "American Red Cross of Nassau County". Sportime is participating with us to help. See * below for details.
OUR PROGRAM:
We have up to 11 indoor clay courts (8 at the main facility & 3 on Lumber Rd) allocated to our group. Up to 44 can play doubles tennis with men/women/mixed on scheduled SUNDAY's from 8pm-10pm (meeting time is 7:30pm). Beginners, intermediate & advance players are matched up to those with similar tennis abilities. NO membership fee. NO prepayment or annual tennis fees. NO commitments so you play and pay on a week to week basis. Pricing is $12 for those who RSVP by Thursday's at 11:59pm and for FIRST TIME attendees. $17 for those who RSVP on Friday/Saturday/Sunday by NOON (NO WALK-IN's). Pricing includes 2 hours of court time & 3 new tennis balls per court.
RSVP: ALL RSVP's must be done on this website (remember to login first). Please do NOT rsvp by sending us an email or calling. Simply click the RSVP button on the appropriate date.
CANCEL: If you cancel on Fiday, Saturday or Sunday, regardless of the reason (no excuses), you will still be responsible to pay the fee ($12/$17). PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL ON SUNDAY AFTER 12PM AS IT CREATES NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH MATCHUPS. IF YOU MUST CANCEL ON SUNDAY, YOU NEED TO CALL KG VISHWANATHAN SO HE CAN ADJUST THE MATCHUPS.
WAITING LIST: If we sell out our available spots, you can join our "waiting list". It will appear as an option on the sold out date. IF someone cancels their spot, or we increase the number of available courts, the Meetup RSVP system will automatically accept the 1st in line on the waiting list and send a confirmation email.
BRINGING GUESTS TO PLAY: Guests are welcome but they need to JOIN and RSVP on their own. Only MEMBERS can RSVP for themselves (not for guests). Our group is FREE to JOIN and it's FLEXIBLE so there are NO obligations. Your guest can JOIN, then RSVP and attend just one session. Afterwards, they can UN-JOIN or turn off email notifications.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO: $40 goes to Sportime for each court (includes balls). Any additional funds we collect goes into our TREASURY.
WHAT DO WE DO WITH OUR TREASURY * First we pay sportime for the courts at our discounted rate. Then every 10 weeks we give our surplus to a charity (currently the American Red Cross of Long Island). Every so often, we will ask our members to nominate charities and then vote to appoint a new charity.
HOW DO WE CREATE WEEKLY MATCHUPS: Each player that joins our group is evaluated by our advanced players for their tennis abilities and matched up with those that play at a similar level. After the initial evaluation, we adjust the player's future matchups using results as tracked on our spreadsheet and our other knowledge about their tennis abilities.
HOW DO WE SCORE & ASSIGN PARTNERS ON EACH COURT: You will play 3 sets (each set is 30 minutes, not traditional scoring, we count games won and lost by each player during the allocated time). After each set, write your personal wins and losses on the score sheet and then change partners within your court. With this method, each partner will have played with and against the others on their court for equal time. Set 1: 8:10pm-8:40pm. Set 2: 8:50pm-9:20pm. Set 3: 9:30pm-10pm. Warmup/Rest at 8pm-8:10pm, 8:40-8:50pm. At 10pm leave the court, meet in the lobby, review your scores on the score sheet, sign the score sheet and submit it to our APPOINTED SCOREKEEPER. Tracking scores an ongoing basis helps us create better matchups. NOTE: IF ALL FOUR PLAYERS ON A COURT PREFER TO SKIP OR SHORTEN THE RESTING TIME SLOTS, EACH SET CAN BE UP TO 40 MINUTES OF PLAY. IF YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL PLAYER PREFER TO REST A BIT BETWEEN SETS, DO NOT AGREE TO PLAYING 40 MINUTE SETS. IF THE OTHER OTHER THREE PLAYERS STILL INSIST ON 40 MINUTE SETS, LET ME OR ANOTHER VOLUNTEER KNOW AND WE WILL REMIND THE OTHER THREE TO BE CONSIDERATE OR FIND ANOTHER GROUP. I PERSONALLY PREFER 40 MINUTE SETS BUT I AM NOT GOING TO MAKE RULES THAT MANDATE 40 MINUTE SETS.
WILL THERE BE ANY PRIZES/AWARDS?: No, we are not pricing our program for that. We track scores to improve our matchups.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
- Show up ON TIME.
- Read and follow our rules.
- Register EARLY. It saves you money and it allows me and our volunteers to plan for courts and matchups in advance. This way there is less work to do on game night.
- Invite your friends to join our group.
- If you're happy with our group, write favorable reviews. If you are unhappy with our group, let us know privately or publicly so we can improve.
- Help create a pleasant enviornment by cooperating, being friendly and show sportsmanship. Problem people will be removed from our group.
