Pine Needle Baskets the EZ Way!

I began making pine needle baskets with a simple statement ?I don?t know how to do that!? Then a dear friend invited me over to her home and showed me how to make one while we enjoyed wonderful cup of tea and I was hooked!

Making baskets from pine needles is a fun and simple way to make beautiful artwork which carries on many indigenous traditions. It requires few tools and materials and, unlike many other basket making techniques, it doesn?t need a lot of room.

Brief history of Pine Needle Baskets
The Native Americans of the Pacific North West traditionally used baskets for storage, cooking and clothing (basket hats were worn on the head and reed woven skirts and capes were worn by men and women). Each community had its own decorations, patterns and styling which told stories of the tribe or landscape. Different materials including reed, cedar bark and root and pine.

We will keep this workshop simple and you will leave with a small but nice hand made basket by your own hands! By the way, it's traditon to give your pine needle basket to your teacher :) BUT... it would suit me if you gave it to someone you love :)

Saturday January 15th from 9 ? 11:30

Workshop fee: $20.00 - All Materials provided.

NOTE: I will have pine needles on hand however; I may perhaps have some other materials on hand to try too! This will depend on how many people end up showing up.

Please make sure that when you park you do not block one of the neighbor?s driveways. There is ample parking less than a block away at the community park.
