***** Important notes*****
Make sure to read all the details about the hike
this is not a beginner hike, you should have hiked at elevations of 8000 plus feet before, and hiked 10 plus miles with 2000 or more elev. gain lately.
I have done part of this route but not all of it, therefore I don't know all the terrain we will encounter, but there will be off trail and bouldering, etc.
**** Off trail hiking. about 2 -4 miles will be cross country*** that can be anything from going over granite slabs, some short scrambles up / down, Boulder fields big and small ones, scree, through some wooded areas, .......... you get the idear.
at the Echo lake parking lot, the big one above the lake,
Est. driving time from Walnut Creek around 2 hrs 45 / 160 miles
there should be a sign for echo lakes from hwy 50, you turn left and follow the road for about 0.6 miles , then you turn left again (you should notice a snow park lot on your right), and go about a mile until you hit the big parking lot,
(if you hit Echo Summit on hwy 50 you went to far)
Waiver. please review, no need to print I will bring a sign in sheet.
Route We start the hike at Echo lakes, follow the PCT along lower and upper echo lake , after about 4.5 miles we leave the trail and go cross country up to Keiths Dome, From Keiths Dome we head towards Triangle lake (but we don't decent all the way down to the lake) traverse above the lake, until we find the trail / use trail going up to Indian Rock and then cross country to Echo Peak, we retrace our steps, back down the use trail and at the triangle lake jct we head back down towards the Echo lakes until we hit the Pct and return back to the parking lot.
Closed hike, you have to answer my questions which will pop when you rsvp for the waiting list., I want to make sure you all know about off trail, rock scramble etc.
no answers to my questions means you won't be added, (unless I do know you )
What to bring, all of you should have done similar hikes in the mountains and know how to prepare,
plenty of water, food, snacks, etc.
Weather for trailhead area , low40 high 58 and sunny, up on and around the peaks it will be cooler and it could be breezy.
be prepared for a chilly morning, I would recommend to throw in some gloves, warm hat, scarf in your pack, dress in layers, it may feel warmer later on. (if you get cold easy)
Group Effort, for most of the hike I have to ask that nobody goes ahead,
Carpools, I have room for 2 or 3 from Walnut Creek
I may cancell this hike if I do not find anyone to carpool with me
Make sure that your meetup e-mail settings set up that you will receive any updates I mail out.
