Parental Alienation Syndrome or PAS is a devastating, complex and real problem. Children of divorce become alienated from one of their parents by either the naive or active "brain-washing"/campaign of denigration against the other parent. The right of a parent and child to have a loving relationship is one of the most fundamental rights and developmentally critical relationships a person has. It is challenging to reverse PAS and many alienated parents do not recognize PAS when it is actively happening with their children. When they do experience it, it can already be entrenched in the mind and behavior of the child/children and the parent often feels at that point that it is too difficult a battle to fight and potentially harmful to their child/children. More and more the courts are recognizing this and intervening in custody and/or enforcing deprogramming of the alienation. There are many parents dealing with this and we are not alone. Support and awareness are essential parts of the battle to stop PAS!
