Phunconf 2.0

The SydPHP annual PHP unconference, aptly named "Phunconference", is on again! Thanks to the support and demand for its return from our community!

* December 15th, 2011
* Starting at 6:30pm

Once again, Google has kindly donated their Sydney headquarters, showing their support for our growing community. There will also be a few googlers on hand to help during the evening.

Microsoft have jumped on board as well to ensure that we've got food and drinks to keep us going through the entire event.

The Phunconference is a unique format, allowing those attending to chose the topics of discussion. With three concurrent sessions running, there is a huge range of topics available, and something to meet everyone's needs! Its a relaxed environment, allowing you to learn and chat with people in a more casual fashion.

So feel free to come along! Whether you have a particular topic of discussion or not, this event is perfect for anyone interested in PHP.

This is a free event! So there's no excuse for not booking your place now!

Please get your RSVPs in early so we know how many to cater for! More details about the event will come between now and December, so get your phunconf thinking cap ready and we'll see you there!

* Free shirt for everyone attending (Thanks pygg.co!)
* Major prizes to giveaway
* Beer, pizza and soft drinks for free!
* Awesome people and awesome talks!

    Thanks for organizing the event and prizes! I'm really impressed with JetBrains. Its debugger was so painless to setup and runs quite nicely on my 4 year old machine ... The most handy feature is the spell checker. Looks like my Christmas came early ;)

    This was my first experience of meetup organised in this way & I really liked it. I think that next time i would make even more of it. Thanks for that, guys!

    It was a good night, although I would have liked to see the other developers come with some background reading (if light) to help them contribute / participate a little better.

    The discussion we got going and the involvement on the topic we came up with was excellent, and the guys in the talk were all discussing going away and attempting it.

    Thanks to all people who made this success~
    I am a girl and sometimes I feel very shy to talk in front of lots of people. But, in the future I'll encourage myself to talk as much as I can because to share what you know would be feeling more happy than just being a listener.

    Over all it was not too bad at all. I think a future event would benefit from having more lead time on topic choices and requiring voting to be done a week or so in advance to get people thinking about what they might talk about. Seeding at least one expert/host/moderator into each talk would be a massive benefit -- keep people on-topic, ask questions to get things going (which is where prep time after voting comes in). The main thing that I felt didn't work was that in most cases (for me at least) it was up to "No One" to get the talk started which was a bit uncomfortable.

    For Phunconf 2 it was difficult to hear in the small groups, it was a large turnout which made for a lot of noise. Needs to be a selected facilitator for each group to help get the conversation going and to have it continue without interruptions. Otherwise it was engaging to listen to other people's observations on topics.

    I really liked the format of the un-conference. Way better than sitting in the chair quietly and listen to one person. food great, beer great, talks great

    I can't say I enjoyed this as much as I thought I would. It was crowded, hot and stuffy. The format of the conference wasn't as well thought out as it could have been. I liked the idea of splitting up the group into smaller topics, but some subjects were simply too broad to cover in 15 minutes.

    That being said, I'll most likely attend the next one. :)

    Great organisation, good idea of the topics per group, good attendance.
    It is probably hard to organise small talks between random people, if nobody knows in depth the subject.

    It was exhausting for us organisers. But we really enjoyed ourselves. I hope everyone else did too and got something out of. This isn't the last Phunconf, so we hope to see you all next year!

    I just need to say Thanks to Google for the venue, we love being able to take this to a nice setting with plenty of space to hold the Phunconference.

    Thanks also to Microsoft, who have offered to put forward the cast to feed us, and get us drinks.

    Its awesome to have this sort of support from such big industry players. Thanks!
