Anthony Shaw, Head of Innovations, Dimension Data & Apache Member, Libcloud
Topic: Anthony Shaw will be presenting a new feature to the Apache Libcloud project. Anthony is one of the main contributors to Apache Libcloud and has developed an abstraction API for orchestrating container-as-a-service clouds. Amazon have launched a service for hosting and managing Docker containers (ECS), as have Google and Microsoft with Azure. Before users lock themselves into a particular vendor API, libcloud gives them a way to keep their code and automation loosely coupled.Anthony will present the API, why you would want an abstraction layer and how this applies to your docker workflows as well as pros and cons of the current container-as-a-service clouds.
Bio: Anthony Shaw works at Dimension Data in their global R&D team as Head of Innovation. He leads various research initiatives into DevOps technologies, automation and cloud adoption.Anthony is also an Apache Software Foundation member and on the project management committee for Apache Libcloud. Apache Libcloud is an open-source library for abstracting cloud provider APIs (http://libcloud.apache.org (http://libcloud.apache.org/)). Anthony also speaks at various open-source events such as this years' upcoming SaltConf in Salt Lake City.
