Arash Sadrieh "Application of Graphic Processing Unit in Model Predictive Control"

Abstract:

The GPU has been adapted and used as a real time coprocessor for Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) of chemical systems, providing a means to improve the computational performance of the MPC algorithm in an economic manner. In this approach, a parallel version of Nelder-Mead simplex algorithm was used to solve MPC optimization problem. In order to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the implementation was applied in model predictive control of a crystallizer unit operation. The results show a considerable improvement in computational performance compared to the standard CPU based implementation.

Abstract:

Performance limitations arise if multiple kernel launches are used to progress through a domain sequentially. We find a performance penalty related to the number of threads assigned to each kernel even if occupancy requirements are satisfied.

Abstract:

Accurate physics based corrections in multi-modality imaging relies upon both modalities being anatomically matched at all time points. I am focusing on this problem in combined Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) scanning. Respiratory motion introduces mismatch because the PET and CT scans are not necessarily temporally correlated. I am experimenting with a statistical motion model as an alternative method to obtain correlated gated PET and CT frames. The model simulates the motion of all attenuating organs within the thorax
