Intro to Creative Commons

We will start with what is Creative Commons

Other things we can cover:

•  Why you might want to release content under a Creative Commons license

•  What you can and cannot release under a Creative Commons license

•  Things to consider when picking a Creative Commons license (there 6 to choose from)

•  Where you can find content that was already released under a Creative Commons license and what to look for and look out for if you want to create derivative works

If folks are interested in a viewing of "The Internet's Own Boy" - the story of Aaron Swartz we could arrange a viewing at the end of this meetup in commemoration of 1 year since his passing.

Dan, what do you think about holding this workshop in January?

I'de like to propose we do this on January 11th in memory of Aaron Swartz. This is the one year anniversary of his passing and seeing how much impact he had on the creation of creative commons seems apropos.

Awesome idea! Why dont we extend an invite to Rochester/Albany makerspaces as well? We can make a thing of it.

+1 good idea. Perhaps could cover other open source licenses as well (GPL, MIT, Apache, etc) and compare / contrast them w/ the CC licenses.

    Just my 2 cents.
