What is Girl Develop It (GDI) and why should we bring it to Syracuse?

“GDI is a nonprofit organization that provides affordable programs for adult women interested in learning web and software development in a judgement free zone. The mission is to create a network of empowered women to feel confident in their abilities to code and build beautiful web and mobile applications. By teaching women around the world from diverse backgrounds to learn software development, we can help women improve their careers and confidence in their everyday lives.”

We need to bring GDI to Syracuse because, currently there are not many resources for affordable and convenient coding classes, yet there is a market of women that are looking for them. It will also open Syracuse up to the national GDI network.

How can we make it happen?

Zoe Koulouris and Kseniya Hogan have decided to lead the effort. “We have been learning web development over the last year, and have traveled to Rochester for multiple GDI classes. We have increased our exposure to different languages and been exposed to an awesome network of women facing the same challenges and questions. We feel a strong need to bring it to our local community and want to step up to lead the effort to make it happen. What we need to know is whether there is enough traction, and what is needed from our local community from a resource standpoint.”

Lets start the discussion! Please join us for a fun and informal meetup about this mission. This a female friendly event but men are welcome to be involved!
