"Getting In Touch with Nature" Hike

Hello Everyone,

Join my friends and me on this peaceful leisure hike around Ramapo Lake. We will help you get in touch with nature by observing, listening, exploring and identifying our surroundings.  Spirit exists in all living things and if we pay attention, we can find out what nature has to teach us simply by being aware of our surroundings.  Some cultures believe that Spirit speaks to us through animals and that they can help guide us along our path. Let's take this time to open up our awareness to the messages nature has to offer us.

We may also be able to help you interpret what some of those messages are. :-)

We'll start at the lower lot. Then, hike up a gradual hill for about 15min. to the lake. From there, we'll walk around the lake and perhaps take an off trail or two, depending on how everyone is doing. We'll be going at a leisure pace with a few stops along the way for water, snacks and to take in nature.

Pace: Leisurely
Estimated Time: 2 &1/2 - 3hrs.
Estimated Miles: 3&1/2 -4
Donation: $2.00/person (Cash Only please)

Please Be Prepared with:
-Hiking boots or sneakers. Regular sneakers are ok as long as they are sturdy & protect your feet.
- WATER!! bring at least 2 bottles.
- Sun block, sun glasses, hat & bug spray (Good to get one that repels Ticks!)
- Snacks for energy: Trail Mix, energy bar, or fruit etc.
- light weight pants or shorts
- plastic bag for trash. Carry in, carry out policy. There are No Trash cans.
- toilet paper (just in-case)
- Don't forget your camera!
(best to carry everything in a small day/back pack if you have one)

There's a port-a-potty in the lower lot but not anywhere else.

*Hike will be canceled in the event of thunder & lightening or heavy rain

Coming from the South: Take 287 North to exit 57 (Skyline Dr./ Ringwood). Make a Left at the end of the ramp at the traffic light. This will put you on Skyline Dr. (you'll see the sign for Ringwood Park) Go approx. 0.5 mi. The parking lot will be on your left. Go slow when you start going up the hill, you can easily miss it. It is a Rocky dirt lot.

Coming from the North
Take 287 South to exit 57 (Skyline Dr./ Ringwood). Stay Right onto Skyline Dr. Parking lot is exactly 0.1 mi. on your Left.

*PARKING: Parking will be tight so please park close together to leave as much room as possible.
We'll meet in the lower parking lot by the Trail entrance. I'll be wearing a green cap.

I enjoyed spending time with everyone. I truly appreciate everyone's graciousness in allowing me to share a little of my culture. Thanks everyone for the positive comments and of course a big shout out to Melanie for her efforts and planning. Look forward to other events.

Another great meet-up. Loved the animal tracking information and bonus handout! Btw, for those who were interested, the app I use on my phone to track my hikes is called Map My Run...and it's FREE!

The Hike was terrific. Melanie and Eric did an awesome job in demonstrating "tuning" in our senses. The handout will be especially helpful in future outdoor adventures as well!! Had a great time hanging out with everyone today and look forward to doing something like it in the near future!!

    Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your RSVP. I have a very small request before the hike ;-) If you have a bandanna or small neck scarf, please bring it with you. If not, no worries. I have at least a few extra. This will be a part of one of our exercises tomorrow. You'll see, or maybe not ;-)

    Looking forward to it!
    Thank you,

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
