JAMES DEAN ''REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE'' HIKE!

Well it's because of a movie that was shot there back in 1954 or so. It was called Rebel without a cause. Starring James Dean, Dennis Hopper, Natalie Wood, Sal Mineo, Jim Backus ''Mr Howell'' from Gilligans Island and Nick Adams..They say that the movie cursed most of the actors that were in this film. James Dean died in a car accident, Sal Mineo was stabbed to death in Hollywood. Natalie Wood drowned..The movie was shot in and around the observatory. The big switchblade fight scene was shot on the left side of the observatory by the telescope.

It has not changed much at all really. As for the hike. It's pretty easy, it's all uphill to get to the observatory about a mile or less on a very wide fire road. In all the hike is under 3 miles. It should be about a 2 to 3 hour hike. We will check out the movie locations and there is a snack shop. What to bring, water, good pair of hiking shoes, boots,.We will meet at the Trails Café ''click on map''..It's a trendy little place with rocket fuel they call coffee...Sign up if you are interested...Ron
