Four Peaks Snow Hike to "Browns Peak Summit" 2 hours to peak or bust

Meet up at Fort McDowell Casino, 6:45 to 7AM.
7AM, drive North on Highway 87; 12 Miiles to FOUR PEAKS ROAD. Take FOUR PEAKS ROAD 15.1 Miles to the MUD SPRINGS TRAILHEAD. The Four Peaks Road is rough and recommended for high profile vehicles only.
I have room for 6 peeps in my Yukon to carpool to the trailhead. Not recommended for any low profile vehicles on Four Peaks Road.

Mud Springs Trailhead elevation is 4399'

Browns Peak Summit is 7657'

Distance to summit is 3.01 miles with just over 3300' in elevation gain. Round trip hiking distance is 6 miles. First mile has 600' in elevation gain; the next half mile as we connect onto the west ridgeline gains about 900'. The next 1 1/4 miles will gain around 900' to the base of the Peaks.

Four Peaks, at 7657 ft in altitude, is a prominent landmark on the eastern skyline of Phoenix, part of the Mazatzal Mountains. It is located in the Tonto National Forest 40 mi east-northeast of Phoenix, in the 60740 acre Four Peaks Wilderness. On rare occasions, Four Peaks offers much of the Phoenix metro area a view of snow covered peaks, and is the highest point in Maricopa County.

almost made it to the top. I brought a 7 and an 8 year old and didnt have snow pants or proper boots, snow was too deep and hills to steep for them. but they braved the elements for 4 hours.

I want to do the ridge traverse but there is too much snow; I'll wait for it to melt and I will work at Tough Mudder instead.

Weather report....Sunny, with a high near 38. Breezy, with a north wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Wind Chill SUCKS...so pack extra layers...

I would like to do the ridge traverse, but it appears to me that there is a lot of snow on the ridge and it would be best to wait a few weeks for it to melt.

Hey Steve and Ken....it is apparent with the recent snow fall...four peaks was probably hit pretty hard....that said...doing a 1,2 3,4, 3,2,1 in one day is going to be way way way too much. Therefore, I am suggesting we switch it to a FOUR hour hike...from trailhead ascend for 2 hours then return...if we can make it to Browns Peak summit, kewl, if not, there is always another time....

I just took a closer look at the elevation profile. Looks like Camelback x3-4. I'd love to do this eventually but not sure I'm quite ready yet. Next time!
