If you're going on the hike and BBQ, please indicate a food item you'll bring to share with others down in the comments section. This hike will go through the recent burn areas of Pt Mugu State park and has a surreal landscape. We will start at 5 PM when "usually" the weather has cooled off and there is an evening breeze. Of course, I am not Jan, who has a direct connection to the weather Gods. We will go up La Jolla Canyon and down Overlook trail where there are wonderful views of the Pacific coastline and the sunset over the Channel Islands.
We'll make a big loop back to the parking area. The total distance is about 7 miles. We should be back by 8.
Elevation gain is about 1500ft.
After the hike you are invited to my house for a BBQ. I will grill burgers (hamburgers, turkey burgers, chicken burgers) and provide beer and wine. If you want any thing else, bring it.

Directions to the Ray Miller Overlook Trailhead.
To get to Ray Miller Trailhead drive west on the Pacific Coast Highway, 22 miles from Malibu Canyon Road to La Jolla Canyon. Those coming from the Ventura area, will find it 4 miles beyond Las Posas Road. It is located across PCH from the western end of Thornhill Broom State Beach. If you park in the lot, a fee is charged, so stop at the sign. Drive about 400 yards up the canyon and park in a paved lot on the left. Parking is also available for free on PCH.
