Hike in Malibu-Mesa Parkway to Corral Canyon--Out and Back(OAB)

Details

Mesa Peak Motorway to Corral Canyon(Out and Back Hike) I love this hike because it's a fantastic workout with great views of the Malibu area. There are great rock formations, caves, and a labrynth at the summit.

This 10 mile hike begins at the Backbone Trailhead on Malibu Canyon and proceeds along the southern rim of Malibu Creek State Park. After about 5 miles we reach Corral Canyon and turnaround. Highlights include ocean views, and Mesa Peak.

Elevation gain is about 1700 ft.

This is definitely a moderate to strenuous hike(depending on your own personal hiking ability).

We will wait for slower hikers.

Bring food, water, camera.

Trailhead parking is on west side of Malibu Canyon/Las Virgenes a few yards south of Piuma Rd.

I'll meet everyone at the trailhead.

Directions:

From the 101:Get off at the Las Virgenes and go south approximately 5 miles to the trailhead parking lot just past Piuma Rd. Turn right into parking lot. (Las Virgenes Rd becomes Malibu Canyon Rd at Piuma) [b]

From PCH: Take Malibu Cyn Rd north around 4.5 miles and just before Piuma light turn left into parking lot.

Parking in lot is $???? exact change.

There is free parking on the dirt patch on the southeast corner of Piuma and Las Virgenes. Be careful crossing the road.

Sorry, no dogs allowed as this is part of the State parks.

IMPORTANT:Since I limit the number of participants, please do not RSVP "Yes" unless you mean it. If a waitlist develops, please give those on the waitlist the courtesy of changing your RSVP from "Yes" to "No" as soon as your plans change.

Event fee: USD1.00 per person to be collected at the trailhead.
